Veterinarian

Palmetto Animal League is looking for a caring, dedicated Vet Tech Assistant to join our team. Vet Tech Assistants work behind-the-scenes at the PAL Adoption Center caring for over 200 homeless cats and dogs. Duties include exams, spay/neuter surgeries, and other essential work to prepare animals for adoption. Working in shelter medicine is rewarding, and we promise you’ll never be bored!

Responsibilities

  • Examine animals and check their health status
  • Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment
  • Dress wounds of injured animals
  • Vaccinate animals to prevent diseases
  • Prescribe medication
  • Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care
  • Update client records

Skills

  • Experience conducting various types of vaccinations and health checks on animals
  • Knowledge of medical equipment (e.g. ultrasound) and anesthesia procedures
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language
  • Patience and a love for animals, clients, and team members

Community Engagement Coordinator

Palmetto Animal League is looking for a friendly, energetic, and organized individual who can communicate PAL’s mission and vision in the community through professional and thoughtful interactions with others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote positive communication of PAL’s vision, mission, programs, and outreach efforts internally and externally by engaging volunteers and cultivating individuals, organizations and businesses
  • Attend PAL fundraising and outreach events, including setup and breakdown of PAL table, tent and collateral
  • Solicit donations from local businesses for annual auction
  • Execute daily tasks such as prompt emails, telephone response, and statistics for outreach work
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and collateral
  • Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned
  • Utilize volunteer database for scheduling volunteers for events
  • Train volunteers for community events
  • Some evenings required and typically two Saturdays per month

Overall Requirements

  • Enthusiasm for PAL’s mission of helping animals in the community
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and experience with data and spreadsheets
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Able to effectively work independently and within a team framework
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced office environment
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a good driving record

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily in an office environment with exposure to animal allergens, high noise levels, and distractions
  • Must be comfortable interacting with dogs and cats, many of whom may be undersocialized and/or large
  • Work frequently occurs outside the office environment while soliciting businesses and for community engagement events
  • Exposure to weather and the general public should be expected

Adoption Center Receptionist

Full-time Position (35 to 40 hours per week)

Palmetto Animal League is seeking a warm and welcoming Adoption Center Receptionist to greet and assist our visitors, volunteers, and potential adopters. In this role, you’ll handle online and telephone adoption inquiries, manage data entry tasks, and conduct follow-up communication as needed. We’re looking for someone with a passion for customer service and a knack for creating positive experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to online and telephone inquiries regarding adoption, as well as lost, abandoned, found, or stray cats and dogs.
  • Schedule appointments for intake/adoption visits and follow-up veterinary care for animals in foster care.
  • Act as a liaison between potential adopters and our furry friends, observing interactions and recommending suitable matches based on these interactions.
  • Guide interested individuals through the application, screening, and adoption process.
  • Provide adopters with behavior information and transition techniques.
  • Educate adopters on proper pet care, necessary supplies, and wellness protocols.
  • Manage adoption processes, including updating database records, photographing adoptions, and maintaining adoption records.
  • Provide adoption and follow up information to volunteers and staff involved in website postings, social media, and adoption promotions.
  • Conduct follow-ups on adoptions to ensure a smooth transition for the animals.
  • Maintain stocked and up-to-date documents as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and social media. Experience with ShelterLuv is a plus.
  • Ability to learn and convey knowledge of animal behavior, health, handling, and characteristics..
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Good judgment when interacting with the public, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing, and professional attitude at all times.
  • Experience with rescue animals, especially cats and kittens, is preferred.
  • Capability to lift up to 20 pounds.
