Wintertime is upon us in the Lowcountry, cold mornings and near freezing evenings. Sometimes life can make you cold inside all the time, as it has done for me and my brother, Dusty.
My name is Maxwell and this is our story.
For many years I lived a quiet life: no kids, no dogs, and no cats. Just mom, dad, and me. It was a wonderful, quiet, kitty paradise.
Around my fifth birthday, Mom decided I needed a friend and brought home Dusty. This did not make me happy; he was young and full of too much energy. Over time that all changed, and we became closer than blood brothers.
Fast forward three years and life knocked the wind out of us. Our dad died rather suddenly, leaving mom very distressed and sad. It became obvious that mom needed help, which she found, but she wasn’t allowed to have us. This only made mom more distraught. She loved us too much to dump us at any old shelter where we could be euthanized for any reason (including age).
Palmetto Animal League to the rescue!
Mom has peace of mind that we are safe, and we wish her well. Now it is time for us to dry our tears and mend our broken hearts.
I’m not terribly worried about my brother, Dusty. He is mild mannered, quiet, and still rather young being less than five years old. I think he will adjust to a new life faster than myself.
Me? At nine years old I’m really set in my ways. It took me a long time to let Dusty into my heart and right now my heart is frozen. I know that I am safe and secure here at Palmetto Animal League, but I won’t be truly happy until the right person touches my heart and takes me home.
In life all you need is love; everything else comes from that foundation. Dusty and I would be happiest moving on together to a quiet home where we received all the love (no kids, no other animals). We know that may not be possible, but it is our Holiday wish.
Come visit us Monday-Saturday between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Even if you don’t take one or both of us home (hint, hint) we, and all the other animals at the PAL Adoption Center, would really enjoy a visit from you.
With Hope in My Heart,
Maxwell
