Veterinarian
Palmetto Animal League is looking for a caring, dedicated Vet Tech Assistant to join our team. Vet Tech Assistants work behind-the-scenes at the PAL Adoption Center caring for over 200 homeless cats and dogs. Duties include exams, spay/neuter surgeries, and other essential work to prepare animals for adoption. Working in shelter medicine is rewarding, and we promise you’ll never be bored!
Responsibilities
- Examine animals and check their health status
- Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment
- Dress wounds of injured animals
- Vaccinate animals to prevent diseases
- Prescribe medication
- Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care
- Update client records
Skills
- Experience conducting various types of vaccinations and health checks on animals
- Knowledge of medical equipment (e.g. ultrasound) and anesthesia procedures
- Problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language
- Patience and a love for animals, clients, and team members

Veterinary Clinic Receptionist
Palmetto Animal League is searching for an organized and empathetic veterinary receptionist to join our team. Duties include scheduling appointments, issuing invoices, and receiving payments after consultations. An outstanding veterinary receptionist will provide comfort to human and animal clients when in distress and ensure that our office remains presentable at all times.
Responsibilities
- Greeting and welcoming patients with sincerity.
- Answering telephone calls and returning e-mails.
- Scheduling appointments using our designated software.
- Informing the veterinarian or practice manager of emergencies that require urgent attention.
- Issuing invoices for treatment and prescribed medication after each consultation.
- Receiving and verifying payments after each consultation.
- Monitoring the inventory of items for sale by the practice and restocking these, as needed.
- Overseeing the sale of items stocked by the practice.
- Liaising with courier services and laboratories to ensure that samples are delivered and collected on time.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous administrative experience is a plus, preferably within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with veterinary medical billing software is advantageous.
- Intermediate computer proficiency.
- Basic arithmetic skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Personable, empathic disposition.
- Capacity to work well during distressing situations.
- Ability to work shifts, on weekends, and on public holidays, as needed.
Vet Tech
As a Veterinary Technician, you will play an essential role in providing high-quality care for our rescued animals. This position is vital to our mission of ensuring the health and well-being of each animal while fostering a supportive environment for potential adopters.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals.
- Perform routine examinations and administer vaccinations as needed.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each animal.
- Utilize aseptic techniques during surgical procedures and treatments.
- Provide compassionate care to animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Educate pet owners about proper animal care and health practices.
- Monitor animal behavior and vital signs during recovery periods.
- Support the overall operations of the shelter by maintaining cleanliness and organization.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent experience in veterinary care.
- Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary terminology.
- Experience with aseptic techniques and veterinary critical care procedures.
- Ability to handle animals safely and effectively using proper restraint techniques.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Familiarity with X-Ray procedures is a plus but not mandatory.
