Foster Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Operations
Hours: full-time, non-exempt
Compensation: $17-$20 / hour DOQ
Job Summary: Oversees foster care program and manages foster volunteers. Overall responsibility for developing and maintaining a robust foster care program contributing to PAL’s lifesaving capacity and overall quality of care for animals within PAL’s program.
Responsibilities:
- Recruits, orients, and supervises all foster parent volunteers in accordance with the organization’s mission and philosophy.
- Provides ongoing support and training to foster volunteers.
- Ensures that foster parents and pets are matched appropriately and have the support necessary to optimally care for their foster pet(s).
- Maintains all foster program records.
- Coordinates with department managers/supervisors to ensure appropriate animal flow between foster care and the adoption center.
- Updates training materials and programs as needed and alerts fosters to relevant education opportunities.
- Markets pets in need of foster care through various media outlets including social media, newsletters, and more.
- Collaborates with foster parents to ensure that all adoption available pets have proper write ups, photos and marketing to promote their adoption.
- Ensures all foster pets are up to date on medical treatments. Schedules and conducts regular foster exams for revaccinations, parasite control and other routine medical care. Identifies and coordinates with the medical team on all non-routine medical care needs.
- Understand and follow PAL veterinary protocols for regular medical concerns, as well as, critical care and intervention.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Monitors the general behavior and health of foster and candidate pets. Relates concerns to the Director of Operations in a timely manner.
- Develops creative solutions to enhance foster placements, adoptions, capacity for care and community relations consistent with organization long-range goals.
- Makes sure that all foster related procedures and documents are in compliance with all animal welfare and state requirements including maintaining and filing proper paper documentations and database management.
- Promotes savings, material donations and monetary donations to support the foster care program.
- Ensures that foster volunteers know how to implement their role as organization ambassadors.
- Coordinates with other department representatives on all incoming and outgoing pet transfers to maximize care capacity and quality of care.
- Develops and maintains cooperative work relationships with other community agencies, animal control workers and animal welfare organizations, including rescues, veterinarians and other animal services.
- Is knowledgeable and ensures state regulations, PAL policies, procedures and protocols are being followed.

Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher in communications or project management related field and/or a minimum of two years experience in project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks with interruptions in an energetic environment with the pressure of periodic heavy workloads
- Ability to identify problems and needs and to solve and/or communicate them appropriately.

Animal Care Technicians
Animal Care Technicians are responsible for feeding, cleaning, and providing basic care for rescue dogs and cats, and assisting with adoptions. This position is hands-on and requires availability during mornings and/or evenings.
The essential qualities for this role include attention to detail, excellent time management skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills to interact well with staff, volunteers, and the public. We are seeking team members to care for both cats and dogs.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Following all written policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Clean and disinfect kennels, suites, cages, equipment, runs, and other areas of the facility.
- Check and maintain supply levels; make simple observations regarding sickness and/or injury.
- Ability to handle all cats or dogs regardless of breed, temperament, or behavior.
- Report any signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to the supervisor/manager.
- Provides food, water, and proper care for cats or dogs by adhering to schedules and protocols within departmental policy.
- Monitors all animals, including those that may be isolated or quarantined, for signs of illness or unusual behavior; makes notations and reports problems regarding the health and behavior of animals to the appropriate supervisor or medical staff member.
- Shall perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform daily animal enrichment activities.
Job Requirements:
- Prefer experience either working/volunteering for a rescue or caring for dogs and/or cats in a professional environment (boarding, vet office, rescue, groomer, etc.) Willing to train the right candidate.
- Must BE RELIABLE!!! Animals will be depending on you!
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Strong team player.
Physical Effort:
- May require lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Handle dogs weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Walking and/or standing for long periods.
- Frequently work in a bent position.
- Must be required to use strength or agility to restrain stronger, more active animals.
Working Conditions:
- Cat Care is an indoor and warehouse environment, and dog care is a combination of indoor and outdoor environments.

Responsibilities:
- Examine animals and check their health status
- Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment
- Dress wounds of injured animals
- Vaccinate animals to prevent diseases

Skills:

Duties include scheduling appointments, issuing invoices, and receiving payments after consultations. An outstanding veterinary receptionist will provide comfort to human and animal clients when in distress and ensure that our office remains presentable at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Greeting and welcoming patients with sincerity.
- Answering telephone calls and returning e-mails.
- Scheduling appointments using our designated software.
- Informing the veterinarian or practice manager of emergencies that require urgent attention.
- Issuing invoices for treatment and prescribed medication after each consultation.
- Receiving and verifying payments after each consultation.
- Monitoring the inventory of items for sale by the practice and restocking these, as needed.
- Overseeing the sale of items stocked by the practice.
- Liaising with courier services and laboratories to ensure that samples are delivered and collected on time.
Qualifications:

Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures. - Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving, cleaning, and sterilizing surgical sites. Monitor animals before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Perform laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis, to assist in diagnosing illnesses or injuries.
- Clean and maintain examination rooms, surgical areas, and equipment.
- Provide basic grooming services, such as bathing and nail trimming.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care and answer their questions
Qualifications
- We are willing to train eager candidates new to the field that need to gain experience. Some knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques preferred. Familiarity with common veterinary procedures and terminology preferred.
