Thrift Store Associate

Our store is a busy nonprofit in Bluffton, South Carolina. We are customer-centric, fun, and rewarding place to work, shop, donate and volunteer. PAL Thrift supports Palmetto Animal League’s life-saving, animal rescue programs, giving abandoned and neglected animals a second chance at life..

We are looking for a full-time Thrift Store Associate to become an integral part of our team saving the lives of homeless animals in our community! You will be responsible for sorting, pricing, and selling donated goods such as clothing, furniture, kitchen items, pet products, and more in a retail setting to raise funds for the lifesaving animal programs at PAL’s Adoption Center.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist both shoppers and donors
  • Sort, clean, and price donations quickly
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and attractive store
  • Rearrange furniture throughout the store
  • Work schedule is from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Four Weekdays

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in retail sales, customer service, or other related fields is appreciated
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing
  • Friendly with ability to build rapport with customers
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs independently and team lift heavier items throughout each workday

Veterinarian

Palmetto Animal League is looking for a caring, dedicated Vet Tech Assistant to join our team. Vet Tech Assistants work behind-the-scenes at the PAL Adoption Center caring for over 200 homeless cats and dogs. Duties include exams, spay/neuter surgeries, and other essential work to prepare animals for adoption. Working in shelter medicine is rewarding, and we promise you’ll never be bored!

Responsibilities

  • Examine animals and check their health status
  • Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment
  • Dress wounds of injured animals
  • Vaccinate animals to prevent diseases
  • Prescribe medication
  • Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care
  • Update client records

Skills

  • Experience conducting various types of vaccinations and health checks on animals
  • Knowledge of medical equipment (e.g. ultrasound) and anesthesia procedures
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language
  • Patience and a love for animals, clients, and team members

Veterinary Clinic Receptionist

Palmetto Animal League is searching for an organized and empathetic veterinary receptionist to join our team. Duties include scheduling appointments, issuing invoices, and receiving payments after consultations. An outstanding veterinary receptionist will provide comfort to human and animal clients when in distress and ensure that our office remains presentable at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and welcoming patients with sincerity.
  • Answering telephone calls and returning e-mails.
  • Scheduling appointments using our designated software.
  • Informing the veterinarian or practice manager of emergencies that require urgent attention.
  • Issuing invoices for treatment and prescribed medication after each consultation.
  • Receiving and verifying payments after each consultation.
  • Monitoring the inventory of items for sale by the practice and restocking these, as needed.
  • Overseeing the sale of items stocked by the practice.
  • Liaising with courier services and laboratories to ensure that samples are delivered and collected on time.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous administrative experience is a plus, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical billing software is advantageous.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency.
  • Basic arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Personable, empathic disposition.
  • Capacity to work well during distressing situations.
  • Ability to work shifts, on weekends, and on public holidays, as needed.

Vet Tech

Palmetto Animal League is looking for a caring, dedicated Vet Tech to join our team. This position is open to all techs, including entry-level techs looking to advance. Vet Techs at PAL work behind-the-scenes at our Adoption Center caring for over 200 homeless cats and dogs. Duties include exams, spay/neuter surgeries, and other essential work to prepare animals for adoption. Working in shelter medicine is rewarding, and we promise you’ll never be bored!

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist veterinarians in providing care and treatment to animals. 
  • Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures. 
  • Perform tech exams properly.
  • Gather vital signs such as heart rate, temp, and respiratory rate.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving, cleaning, and sterilizing surgical sites. Monitor animals before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their comfort and safety. 
  • Perform laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis, to assist in diagnosing illnesses or injuries.
  • Place IV catheter and assist with taking x-rays.
  • Collect a proper medical history from clients.
  • Clean and maintain examination rooms, surgical areas, and equipment. 
  • Provide basic grooming services, such as bathing and nail trimming. 
  • Educate pet owners on proper animal care and answer their questions.

Qualifications:

  • We are willing to train entry-level techs looking to advance.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with staff and adopters. 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail to ensure accurate record keeping and medication administration. 
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy animals or equipment as needed. 
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
