Some dogs that come to Palmetto Animal League bear invisible scars from abandonment and abuse. This January, we rescued a dog we felt sure would fall into that somber category. But this dog had a different plan for her life. To look at her starving body was difficult, but there was a strong, inherent spirit hiding just beneath the surface that no amount of cruelty could quell.
Foxie was dealt a horrible hand in life. At just a year old, she came to PAL abandoned and painfully malnourished, looking for a brand-new start. This lovely girl was woefully shy but wanted so badly to trust.
“Foxie is timid and sweet,” says PAL President Amy Campanini. “She is a gentle soul who needs patience, understanding, and time to feel comfortable.”
When she first arrived at our adoption center, the busy environment was stressful for her.
“It broke our hearts to see her so terrified of new people, unfamiliar situations, just everything,” says dog caregiver, Emma Pereida. “She would cower in the corner and shake.”
All that changed when we placed Foxie in a loving foster home. Showered with patience and understanding, Foxie quickly blossomed into a confident, happy dog who is full of life.
“Her transformation was nothing short of amazing, both physically and emotionally,” says Campanini. “Foxie is proof that sometimes all you need is love.”
Now, she is back at PAL and better than ever. She’s 47 pounds of sweetness, and she’s ready to find a forever home where she can continue to thrive.
“Foxie has shown just how resilient and loving she truly is,” says Campanini “And she’s more than ready to find a family that will cherish her.”
Foxie is looking for someone with a gentle hand to show her how wonderful life is meant to be. If you have room in your heart and home for her, she will repay you with unwavering adoration.
“She loves other dogs and enjoys playing with toys,” says Pereida. “She gives us momma dog vibes. She’s nurturing, gentle, and ready to share all the love she has to give.
If you’d like to meet Foxie, visit the Palmetto Animal League Adoption Center, located at 56 Riverwalk Blvd in Okatie, Monday through Saturday from 12-6pm.
“Foxie has seen a lot with those amber eyes, and we want to make sure, from here on out, all she sees is how wonderful this world can be,” says Campanini.
