As PAL prepared for Irma, we asked and you answered with a resounding – YES, I’M HERE FOR THE ANIMALS! Even as you were planning for the safety of your own family, you were still taking steps to help PAL cats and dogs. Your compassion and commitment to the animals is truly amazing, and PAL is privileged to be YOUR animal rescue/shelter/advocate/No-Kill resource.
THE POWERING FORCE BEHIND PAL
Several dozen people volunteered to take a PAL cat or dog with them when they evacuated. We are humbled and ever thankful that these caring folks made the safety of our pets a priority in the uncertain days surrounding the storm. As we welcomed these animals back to our Adoption Center, we were overwhelmed by a wonderful and powerful sense of unity, togetherness, humility and compassion. Thank you to everyone who fostered a PAL pet during Irma. Just look at these adorable photos!
A “MOVING” EXPERIENCE
As the storm blew through our area, a small group of dedicated staff members “moved into” the PAL Adoption Center for 3 days to care for the cats and dogs. After carefully tracking Irma’s path, we decided not to evacuate. We felt our building (designed to withstand a Cat 3) was safer than moving the pets to Aiken where the storm was headed. Thanks to these devoted people who stayed behind, our animals were well cared for without the stress of evacuation. We simply cannot express how grateful we are to these special staff members whose dedication to the animals is beyond compare.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF STORM
While the Lowcountry was largely spared by Irma, the total devastation in Florida, the Caribbean and surrounding islands is nothing short of tragic. Our hearts are with everyone in the hardest hit areas as they work to rebuild their lives.
Here at PAL, the wind and rain left no impact on our building or our pets. However, having to close PAL’s Adoption Center, Community Clinic and Thrift Store during the storm has left us with some financial hurdles to overcome.
Also, while we were closed, more than 200 homeless animals at the PAL Adoption Center missed out on their opportunity to finally find a home of their own.
Help today by adopting from our No Kill shelter, by caring for your animals at PAL’s Community Clinic, by shopping at the PAL Thrift Store, or by making a special donation. Animal loving individuals coming together creates a different kind of storm, one that is far more powerful and long-lasting than any hurricane.
