Many people consider volunteering at their local animal shelter but hesitate because they’ll want to bring home all the animals. PAL Thrift volunteer Ginnie Magee understands this feeling all too well.

“I spent a short time at the PAL Adoption Center visiting with the cats, but I kept drifting to the kennel to see the dogs,” says Ginnie. “Finding that a little difficult on my heart, a friend suggested I start volunteering at the PAL Thrift Store instead, and 10 years later I’m still here!”

Having loved a few dogs in her life, Ginnie has a heart for animals and supports PAL’s compassionate, no kill rescue mission.

“Volunteers are super valuable to PAL’s mission,” says Ginnie. “We are cost free, willing, and able. We are there for no other reason than we want to be, and that makes a difference in one’s attitude.”

Ginnie volunteers at the Thrift Store every morning for about 4 hours. She prefers to stay in the background, sorting donated items and says the quality and prices at PAL Thrift can’t be beat!

“One day, a young girl was looking for a prom dress with her mom,” recalls Ginnie. “We had a beautiful dress for under $20, and when this young lady tried it on, it was just “her.” She and her mom cried, and we all did too, like a big family.”

Ginnie appreciates that PAL Thrift has a nice blend of volunteers and employees, all experienced in different aspects of life.

“The camaraderie is great, and I’ve made some really good friends there,” says Ginnie. “We volunteers are few but mighty, and we’re all really dedicated to helping the pets at the PAL Adoption Center.”
