The Palmetto Animal League Adoption Center serves as a temporary home for some 200 cats and dogs at any given time while they wait to find a loving home, and every so often an extra special soul shines among them all.
Manly is one of those animals. A 5-year-old hunk of burning love, Manly enjoys long naps, lounging in the sun – and long naps while lounging in the sun. As if his substantial physique and gentle demeanor aren’t enough to make you fall in love, he really stole our hearts when we saw him becoming a father figure to tiny orphans at our Adoption Center. Before Manly was adopted, he spent countless hours at PAL grooming newborn kittens.
In fact, he was so good at soothing the orphaned kittens that our staff moved him in with the newest litters to act as a surrogate parent or “cat dad” as we liked to call him. Manly was perfectly happy to carry out his newfound calling, but after some time passed we decided he was missing out on his own opportunity at finding a forever home. So, we moved him back up front where visitors could meet him on a daily basis, and it wasn’t long before this sweet boy was adopted.
Manly’s fatherly ways were a blessing to so many at PAL, and this Father’s Day we thought it only fitting to share his story with you. But that’s not all! Manly’s kindly acts during his time at our Adoption Center are still inspiring others and making a difference. In honor of Manly, and in loving memory of her father, a generous Palmetto Animal League supporter has offered to match donations leading up to Father’s Day.
Make a special donation to PAL now through June 17, in honor of your dad, and every dollar will be doubled, having twice the impact for abandoned, abused and neglected animals in our community! These are lives worth saving. Be Manly this Father’s Day.
While Manly had a soft spot for helping kittens, there are also many adult animals waiting to find a loving home. The week of Father’s Day, PAL is waiving adoption fees for adult male cats and dogs. Come visit our Adoption Center, located at 56 Riverwalk Blvd. in Okatie’s Riverwalk Business Park, Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. to meet our adoptable pets. Remember, adoption fees are always waived, year-round, for our senior pets over 7 years of age known as Silver Paws.
